Do clear aligners fit student life?

Clear aligners are taken out for eating and brushing and worn for the rest of the day. They are usually hard to notice in lectures, presentations and social settings. For treatment to work, the aligners need to be worn 20–22 hours a day, so it helps to think about your daily routine in advance.

Planning check-ups around exams and holidays

  • Try to schedule check-ups outside midterm and final exam weeks.
  • If you go home for the summer, discuss this with your orthodontist before you leave; aligner sets and the check-up date can be planned accordingly.
  • Book your appointments early for registration periods and the semester break.

Aligner care in the dorm and on campus

  • Carry your aligner case, a small toothbrush and toothpaste in your bag.
  • Drink only plain water while the aligners are in.
  • Do not rinse aligners in hot water; use lukewarm water and a soft brush.
  • Do not wrap aligners in a napkin; this is how they are most often lost.

Detailed tips are on the wear and care guide page.

Coffee, the cafeteria and exam stress

Coffee, tea and sugary drinks should not be consumed with the aligners in. Teeth clenching may increase during exam periods; if you notice jaw pain or wear on your aligners, mention it at your check-up. For common aligner issues, see the problems and solutions page.

Getting to the clinic from campus

The clinic is in the Park Oran Office building on Kudüs Street in Oran (next to Panora Mall). Options for getting around the city are on the getting here from Çankaya and around page.

Sport, music and campus events

If you play contact sports, ask your orthodontist whether to wear your aligners during sport and about using a mouthguard. If you play a wind instrument, it may take a little time to get used to the aligners at first. Whenever you take your aligners out at campus events or meals, always put them in their case.

Before graduation or an important date

If you are thinking of starting treatment before graduation, an internship interview or an important event, the estimated duration is shared after the examination and digital planning. Wearing the aligners for the recommended time is the most important factor in keeping to the expected duration. The treatment steps are described on the clear aligner treatment process page.
