Private health insurance and orthodontics: the basics

Part of healthcare in Türkiye falls under the Social Security Institution (SGK). Private health insurance is a separate product, bought by individuals or employers, which may cover a share of costs at private healthcare providers. Whether orthodontic treatment, meaning clear aligners or braces, is covered depends entirely on the terms of your policy.

Private health insurance (ÖSS) and complementary health insurance (TSS) are not the same thing

  • Private health insurance (ÖSS): may cover outpatient and inpatient treatment costs according to the coverage, limits and conditions written in the policy.
  • Complementary health insurance (TSS): a policy designed to cover part of the difference charged by private providers above the amount SGK reimburses for services within SGK coverage.

The scope, waiting periods and approach to dental treatment can differ between the two products. You can find out which one you have in the general policy conditions and the coverage table.

Contact us to find out which institutions we have agreements with

Which insurers or institutions we have agreements with is information that can change over time. For this reason we do not publish a list of contracted institutions on this page. To find out whether there is an agreement between your insurer and our clinic, you need to ask us directly.

  • You can call 0312 911 60 36 or write to us on WhatsApp.
  • You can use the form on the contact page.
  • Stating your insurance company and your policy type (ÖSS or TSS) when you write speeds up the reply.

Even where an agreement exists, whether orthodontic treatment is covered under your policy must be clarified separately.

Questions to ask your insurer

  • Does my policy cover orthodontic treatment (clear aligners or braces)?
  • Is there an age limit, waiting period or annual limit?
  • Is pre-approval (provision) required before treatment starts?
  • Is there a requirement to use a contracted institution, or can I also apply through reimbursement?
  • Which documents are required for reimbursement?

Commonly requested documents

Insurers usually ask for documents such as an examination and diagnosis report, a treatment plan and an invoice. For details, see our page on insurance and orthodontic documents; you need to get the exact list from your insurer.

Next step

The treatment plan is prepared after the assessment made at the first examination. You can also raise your insurance questions during your appointment. For more information, see the page on the first orthodontic examination.

This page is for general information only. Insurance coverage and reimbursement decisions rest with your insurer; regulations and product terms may change.
